The Former Hon. Speaker Welcomes the Public to the Parliament’s New Website
Date: 12th October, 2023

A Message from Hon. Katherine A. Ebanks-Wilks
It is my distinct honour and privilege to welcome you to the new website for the Parliament of the Cayman Islands. It has been a long journey to get to the extensive and modern website that you are accessing today, and it is my hope and my goal that you will find within these pages the information you need to be connected to the work that goes on in this distinguished legislature.
When I became the Speaker of the Honourable House of Parliament on 25th November 2022, one of my key priorities was to ensure that we developed a modern communications strategy to bring us in line with the expectations and demands of our online society. I aimed to increase participatory democracy in our country, and one of my key goals was to ensure that information relating to Parliament and its proceedings was accurate and timely.
The work of Parliament is vast and touches on all aspects of the lives of Caymanians, residents, and visitors alike. This is where laws are made or amended, where government spending is scrutinized, and where elected Members share both their accomplishments as well as the concerns of their constituents. Because the scope and significance of the Parliament is so great, it is imperative that you are able to engage with your representatives and have easy access to see and know what is happening within the meetings of the House and its Committees.
This website aspires to give you the information you need to stay informed and engaged as an active member of society. Whether it’s through accessing the latest House Documents, learning more about Current Members, or the work of Committees, the Parliament website is the epicentre of accurate legislative information.
As the former Chairperson for the Council of the Parliamentary Management Commission, I also invite you to learn more about the administrative staff and functions behind the legislature, including our rich history and the work the Parliament does with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. We have also put our 50th Anniversary booklet online for your reading pleasure.
Although I am no longer the Speaker since becoming a Minister, I very much look forward to connecting with you online and on our new Facebook and Instagram accounts, where we will continue to share the work of the Parliament with you. In the meantime, please enjoy perusing the new online home of your Parliament.
Sincerely,
Hon. Katherine Ebanks-Wilks, MP
Minister of Sustainability & Climate Resiliency
