Overview

The Standing Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will hold a public hearing on Thursday, 23rd January 2025, in order to examine the Auditor General’s financial audit report, “Financial Reporting of the Cayman Islands Government: General Report 31 December 2023″, published in November 2024.

Senior public servants from the Port Authority of the Cayman Islands, the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure, and the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority will attend as witnesses during the morning session.

This report, which is available on the Auditor General’s website, provides an in-depth analysis of the financial outcomes for 2023, including audit opinions and significant audit matters. It highlights key achievements while addressing concerns regarding the government’s financial reporting practices.

In its upcoming hearing, the Members of the PAC will question the witnesses on the contents of the Auditor General’s report in accordance with Parliament Standing Order 77(4), and Section 87(1) of the Cayman Islands Constitution Order 2009, legislation that empowers the PAC with the responsibility to examine all authorities and Government-owned companies.

Following the hearing, the PAC will prepare its own report to accompany the Auditor General’s report. The Committee may make additional recommendations to the Government pursuant to Standing Order 77(5).
